A New Voice for Sierra Vista

Brad Snyder for Sierra Vista City Council 2010

Brad Snyder for Sierra Vista City Council

Dear Sierra Vista Friends and Neighbors,

11/09/10

I want to thank everyone that supported my campaign by voting, contributing, volunteering and opening your doors while I was walking through our city. Although we did not receive enough votes to win, words cannot express how grateful I am to you for allowing me the opportunity to run for a seat on the Sierra Vista City Council. I am truly humbled by the huge outpouring of support that I received from the community and the many groups who endorsed my campaign for Sierra Vista City Council. Thank you all. Throughout the campaign, my wife, Iwona and my family have been extremely supportive. To our donors, THANK YOU. Without you, none of this would be possible.

While I was competing with two incumbents and one additional candidate we ran an energetic integrity-based campaign. We focused on addressing issues of pressing importance to our city, Economic Development, Job Creation, the need to create more Affordable Housing Options, and our environment.

I congratulate Tom Reardon, Bob Blanchard and Tom Crosby. They ran good races and their wins are well deserved.

The campaign may have ended, but our efforts to make our great city even greater have only just begun. I will continue to be involved and volunteer in our community. To the many that have phoned and written encouraging words and inquiring about the future, it is too soon to decide on a 2012 run.

Thank you again, and I look forward to working with all of you as we enter the next phase of our journey to make Sierra Vista a place for progress and new ideas.

Best Wishes,

Brad Snyder
Sierra Vista City Council Candidate

Brad Snyder for City CouncilThank you for your interest in my campaign for City Council.  While we in Sierra Vista may have different reasons for choosing to call Sierra Vista home, all of us have a special fondness for our city. We love what makes it special and unique, yet we also want to continually make it better. I am running for City Council because I am committed to preserving and improving our extraordinary community.

I am not a Politician. I am a Husband, Father and businessman. I am running for city council because I think I can bring a unique and fair-minded enthusiasm to public service.  I bring to the table a passionate sense of fairness, accountability and transparency.  While this is the first time I have ever run for political office, I have been politically active all my life. One of the great virtues of our democracy is the opportunity for ordinary citizens to lead. Therefore, I believe government is only as good as the people involved. I am not fueled by a specific political agenda nor do I have designs on higher office. What I do have, however, are ideas and opinions about the every day quality of life issues that face our city and how we plan for our city’s growth.

I am running to be in a position where I can raise my voice on behalf of the people I represent; the opportunity to make sure that my community's issues and concerns are heard loud and clear.

What qualifications I bring to the office of city council?

Sierra Vista ElectionsServing on the council would be a natural extension of my proven commitment to our community. My experience includes over 20 years of managing Sierra Vista businesses, I am a member of the Southeast Arizona Association of REALTORS, I am currently a commissioner on the City of Sierra Vista Planning and Zoning Commission; I am on the Board of Directors for the Sierra Vista Chamber of Commerce, and I am an active member of the community. I have proudly coached little league and Youth Soccer over the years and co-founded the 501(3)c) Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation that raised money to pay for youth sports scholarships in Cochise County. I currently host a weekly real estate radio show on KTAN 1420am called Open House.

I’ve lived in this city for over 20 years and I care deeply about the future of Sierra Vista. Having worked and raised my family here, I am committed to providing strong leadership for not only the families that live here but also the businesses that create jobs and financial security to our community. I believe that it is my responsibility to give back my time and efforts to help preserve our city future.

As a Realtor and local small business manager I have had the opportunity to get to know hundreds of families in our community. I believe these personal interactions, along with my business experience, will make me a great voice for the residents and small business owners of Sierra Vista.

What are the key issues facing our community?

Like every community across the country right now, Sierra Vista is suffering some of the effects of a down eMy Vision for Sierra Vistaconomy. It’s important for the council to make and keep the promise to live within our means, hold taxes steady and continue to promote new jobs. I believe that we must work to preserve Sierra Vista’s past while focusing on the future.

My vision for Sierra Vista includes a welcoming environment for new business, encouraging new and affordable housing options, and improving the infrastructure needed to support growth. By continuing to grow and expanding our tax base we will be able to keep our taxes steady and give the tools and resources needed that our law enforcement agents and firefighters need to perform their best. We can balance stability and change while supporting the unique character and history of Sierra Vista. I am in favor of a ward system that would have the city divided into six wards and have one city council person elected by the residents of each ward - and the council candidate would be required to live in that zone.

As your City Councilman, I will have a pro-business agenda that focuses on economic development, quality growth and public safety. I will bring the same fiscal discipline I have practiced in private business to city government. A city is just like a business, but our customers are the people, you and me.  We pay our taxes and it’s our right to demand that the governing body act in the best interest of the people. It just sometimes appears that we just flip a coin when we pass ordinances. I would ensure that any law being up for debate would include the people it will affect.  After all, a good leader will ASK questions of the people, and not just simply TELL the people what they will receive.

Please take a look around my website to find out more about me, the issues in this campaign, my supporters, and how you can become a contributor to or volunteer for my candidacy. I hope that after reviewing my website and speaking with others who know me and support me, you too will support my effort to serve on City Council.

Best regards,

Brad Snyder
